Monterey Bay area community leaders honored County Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Nancy Kotowski, Ph.D., with the prestigious 2013 Ruth Vreeland Memorial Public Official of the Year award.
The award is presented in memory of Ruth Vreeland, a former teacher and education advocate who served 20 years as a Monterey City Council Member, and held a variety of state and local leadership positions.
“I would never have dreamed receiving such an esteemed recognition,” said Dr. Kotowski. “Ruth was such a distinguished person who did so much for education, the community, and the city at large. She was a beautiful spirit in every regard, and it is a tremendous honor to receive an award in her name and to be held up in the same regard.”
The award was presented by the Monterey Peninsula Chamber of Commerce at its annual dinner in March 2014.
