Monterey County Office of Education

Leadership, Support and Service to Prepare All Students for Success

Dr. Nancy Kotowski, County Superintendent of Schools

Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC)

MCHCS was visited by a WASC Visiting Committee on March 17-20, 2013. WASC, a 501(c)(3) organization, recognized as one of six regional associations that accredit public and private schools, colleges, and universities in the United States.

We are happy to announce that we were granted a six-year re-accreditation status, through 2019.

Why Accreditation?

  • Certification to the public that the school is a trustworthy institution of learning
  • Validates the integrity of a school’s program and student transcripts
  • Fosters improvement of the school’s programs and operations to support student learning
  • Assures a school community that the school’s purposes are appropriate and being accomplished through a viable educational program
  • A way to manage change through regular assessment, planning, implementing, monitoring and reassessment
  • Assists a school/district in establishing its priority areas for improvement as a result of the perpetual accreditation cycle

MCHCS is currently accredited through WASC, having received a six-year accreditation in 2007 and again in 2013. In addition, MCHCS's charter was extended a 5-year renewal on March 1, 2017.
