Head Start & Early Head Start services are available at no cost to income eligible families in Monterey County. Income eligibility is based on Federal Poverty Guidelines. Services provided to children 0-5 years old, pregnant women and children with disabilities.

HOW TO APPLY  

1. Download Application for 2017-2018 school year below:

2. Required documents to determine eligibility. Application cannot be processed without:

  • Proof of ALL household income for past 12 months (Previous year 1040forms, W2s, check stubs, TANF (cash aid)/Passport to Services report, unemployment, child support, and disability pay stubs.
  • Child's immunization record
  • Child's birth certificate
  • Child's Medical card (if applicable)
  • Health Questionnaire Form (included in application packet)- Not applicable for pregnant women.
  • Residency Questionnaire Form (included in application packet)

3. Mailing Instructions: 

    Return all documents to:

OR

Submit to your nearest Head Start Center

4. We will contact you after we process your application to inform you of the eligibility status.

Health Note:  Before children can start class in the Head Start/EHS Program, each child must be up to date on health care.  On the first day of school, please bring:

  • Copy of child's current physical exam and results of a TB risk assessment completed by your child's doctor.

NOTE:  Transportation is NOT provided by Monterey County Office of Education Head Start & EHS Program. Other options families may use include the Public Transportation Agencies including the Monterey Salinas Transit Agency. Income guidelines may be waived for children with diagnosed disabilities.  Enrollment will be selected based on the criteria point system.
