The Head Start Program provides a comprehensive child development program to preschool children helping them to prepare intellectually, socially, emotionally, and physically for kindergarten and life. MCOE operates 26 centers in Monterey County, providing services to over 1,200 children, ages 3 to 5, and their families.
Every child is provided with the highest quality child development program based on the internationally acclaimed, research-based High Scope Curriculum. Every enrolled child also receives the following benefits and services:
- Physical examinations and follow-up
- Dental examinations and necessary treatment
- Hearing and vision screening
- Developmental skills screening and an individualized educational program
- Supplemental daily nutrition
Head Start staff members have expertise in early childhood development, social services, health, parent education, and other diverse disciplines. In partnership with parents and the community, we facilitate school readiness for children and foster lifelong independence and personal responsibility for low-income families.
