Monterey County superintendent visits rural schools

Monterey County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Deneen Guss visited three small elementary schools: San Lucas, San Ardo, and Bradley Elementary School. As part of the visit, educational leaders for each school led Dr. Guss on a tour of the school and classrooms, where she met and greeted students, teachers, and employees at each campus.

Scheduling regular visits to school sites provides additional time and space to discuss the resource needs of smaller schools, such as facility, employment, and health and safety. This time is used to assess how the Monterey County Office of Education (MCOE) can best support the needs of each school and the students they serve. Being able to identify and share practices that effectively address the academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs of students is also crucial to cultivating a healthy learning environment.

Due to the limited staff size at small school districts, collaboration between teachers, administration, and other educational staff can be challenging. Thus, collaboration between educational leaders allows for a broader distribution of resources that help meet the needs of students and families. MCOE is proud to lead, support, serve, as well as learn and grow alongside our small districts and will continue to collaborate with one another to elevate the success of students and teachers.
