Monterey County Office of Education Announces Katherine Uppman as Communications and Public Relations Officer

Monterey County, Calif. – The Monterey County Office of Education (MCOE) is proud to announce Katherine Uppman has been appointed as the new Communications and Public Relations Officer. In her role, she will be responsible for the development and implementation of the MCOE website redesign, social media plan, customized newsletters, individualized school district communications, community outreach, media relations and annual informational reports.
 
Mrs. Uppman holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from the University of Michigan and a Master of Arts degree in Leadership and Administration from California State University Monterey Bay. She has over 20 years of experience in both the education and business community, leading efforts to bring innovation to school campuses and promoting the amazing work our district staff and students do every day. Before joining the MCOE, Mrs. Uppman served as a classroom teacher, and Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) Coordinator in the San Francisco Bay Area, as well as locally for the Pacific Grove and Monterey Peninsula Unified School Districts. Most recently, she was appointed Vice Principal at Boronda Meadows Elementary School for the Salinas City Elementary School District.
 
Mrs. Uppman also has an extensive background in business and communications, previously serving as the founding Director of Learning and Onboarding for Eventbrite, a leading technology, event management, and ticketing company in San Francisco.

It is a privilege and an honor to use our voice to magnify the hard work, dedication and relentless passion that every staff member in our schools bring to our students daily.”
 
As the Communications Department lead within the office of County Superintendent, Dr. Deneen Guss, Mrs. Uppman will be working closely with Sitem Aytar, MCOE Communications Specialist, to oversee upcoming MCOE projects such as the new MCOE website redesign and Businesses for Student Achievement Project, a collaborative visual promotion bringing together the education and business communities of Monterey County to highlight our amazing students on banners around our local towns. She will also be implementing a comprehensive communications plan that includes creating a robust social media presence, and customized newsletters for local staff, parents and community members.
