Monterey High School Students Take First Place in Academic World Quest Competition

SALINAS, CA – The World Affairs Council of Monterey Bay Area (WACMB) sponsored a regional Academic World Quest Competition among participating Monterey County high school teams on Saturday, February 11, 2023.

The regional Academic World Quest (AWQ) is a team challenge testing high school student’s knowledge of international affairs.  In the competition, four-person teams answered questions on six topics reflective of critical global and U.S. foreign policy issues.

Congratulations go to Monterey High School for taking first place in our regional Academic World Quest competition. The four team members, Eunwoo Kim, River Valdivia, Sindha Gokaraju, and Taylor Boothe along with their coach, William Pace, will travel to Washington, D.C. in April to participate in the national Academic World Quest competition.  Funds raised by WACMB through MCGives! will pay all expenses.

Coach Pace said of the regional competition, “It has exposed them to subject areas that may have been new to them.  It allows them to engage in a collaborative effort that builds teamwork and comradery.  Overall it was just a great experience.”

The World Affairs Council of Monterey Bay Area is a non-profit, non-partisan organization whose mission is to promote public education, raise the standards of public debate, and encourage dialogue through the study and discussion of international issues.
