Occhiata 1

On Saturday, January 30th, more than 150 students from Monterey County solved the riddles from Giacomo Puccini’s opera Turandot.

  1. What is born each night and dies at dawn?
  2. What flickers red and is warm like flame but not a fire?
  3. What is like ice but burns?

The Occhiata Foundation hosted its seventh annual “Day at the Opera" at the Century Theatre in Del Monte Center, showing the Metropolitan Opera’s Live HD Performance of Turandot.

The students from three schools, Fairview Middle School (Gonzales), Chalone Peaks Middle School (King City) and Soledad High School (Soledad) enjoyed the day tremendously. Their reactions said it all - they couldn't stop talking about the story, the performances, and how much they looked forward to their next show! It was a beautiful day celebrating the arts.

Not only were students treated to the opera, but they were provided breakfast, snacks, and a luncheon at The Hilton Garden Inn.

Support for this year’s program came from the Arts Council for Monterey County, S.T.A.R. Foundation of Monterey County and other generous Monterey County donors.

Thanks to the Occhiata Foundation for helping to foster a love for opera in students, year after year.
