Salinas, CA -- A first-class education can transform a life of hard-knocks. Just ask tonight’s graduating students in the Monterey County Office of Education’s (MCOE) Alternative Education Program.
Students are referred to the Alternative Education Program because of problems with expulsion, probation, and truancy. The 67 graduating high school students and 10 advancing 8th graders have overcome obstacles of poverty, academic failures and behavioral struggles to succeed in their educational journey.
In addition to receiving diplomas and GED certificates, three graduates will receive scholarship awards: Danielle Rodriguez (Juvenile Court, Community and Alternative School Administrators of California - JCCASAC), Carlos Jimenez (Lozano Smith), and Ulises Caudras (Maya Cinemas).
Graduation ceremonies are tonight at 7:00 p.m. at Sherwood Hall, located at 940 N. Main Street in Salinas.
The media is invited to cover the event, and speak to the graduates, their proud parents and families, and the staff of the Alternative Education Program.
