The Holiday spirit is still very much alive in King City. On Friday, February 13, students from Gabilan School will visit the King City Police and Fire Departments, and Chamber of Commerce to say, “thank you” for the holiday gifts they received through the groups’ annual toy drive.

The thank you notes are large, colorful classroom-produced posters, featuring the hand prints of the students.

Gabilan School offers programs for special needs students, and is operated by the Monterey County Office of Education (MCOE). Gabilan School teacher Ravi Lal and MCOE school social worker Phrani Diksa worked closely with Chamber of Commerce board member T.J. Plew to ensure the gifts would match the developmental age of each of the children. The effort was supported by local representatives of the U.S. Army and United States Marine Corps.

“These students and their families were facing a Christmas without gifts, but everyone really stepped up,” said Ms. Diksa. “It was wonderful to see the Chamber, Police and Fire, and even the Army and Marines donate their time and energy to ensure these families would have a happy holiday.”
