Kid's Happy Hour

About our Literacy Campaign

In honor of the National Education Association’s Read Across America Campaign, we launched our "Kid’s Happy Hour" Literacy Campaign. Our nation's largest celebration of reading started on March 2nd, 2021 and continued throughout the year.

Due to pandemic limitations at our sites, and to ensure the health and safety of our foster grandparents, staff, and children, our partnerships worked to team up to create alternatives for student engagement opportunities. Our program and our foster grandparent volunteers continued to support our preschoolers with their literacy skills by launching our “Kids Happy Hour” early learning literacy campaign.

This campaign allowed children to view and listen to a video of their assigned foster grandparent reading a book using our Raising a Reader, evidence-based, early literacy and parent engagement program. Our teaching staff then talked to families about fun activities to do - games, art, etc. during their remote/classroom session.
