Comprehensive Support and Improvement (CSI/ATSI)

About Comprehensive Support and Improvement (CSI/ATSI)

Comprehensive Support and Improvement (CSI)

The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) requires state educational agencies (SEAs) to determine school eligibility for comprehensive support and improvement (CSI). Local educational agencies (LEAs) with schools that meet the criteria for CSI must collaborate with educational partners to locally develop and implement a plan to improve student outcomes. California uses the California School Dashboard (CA Dashboard) to determine school eligibility for and exit criteria from CSI. Eligibility is based on a low graduation rate or identification of the lowest-performing five percent of Title I schools. The county office of education (COE) provides technical assistance and support to LEAs and schools that meet the CSI criteria.

Targeted (TSI)/Additional Targeted Support & Improvement (ATSI)

In addition, the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) requires state educational agencies to determine school eligibility for targeted support and improvement (TSI) and additional targeted support and improvement (ATSI). TSI/ATSI designations are based on student group results as indicated on the CA Dashboard. Schools that meet the criteria for ATSI must collaborate with educational partners to develop and implement a school-level plan to improve student outcomes.
