Monterey County SELPA Professional Development Opportunities

The Monterey County SELPA offers a wide range of professional development opportunities designed to support educators, administrators, and service providers. These trainings focus on evidence-based practices, legal compliance, inclusive instruction, behavior intervention, and other areas that enhance outcomes for students with disabilities. Through workshops and collaborative learning sessions, participants gain practical tools, and current information.

Monterey County SELPA is working to meet the changing needs of our local educators by providing in-person and virtual trainings presented by experts in the educational field.  The workshops and training opportunities listed on this menu will be presented by the SELPA, or an outside agency, or organization such as the Diagnostic Center North.  Register for these offerings directly from the calendar.

  • About: This training will equip participants with the skills to complete AAC Needs Assessments, match tools and strategies to student needs, and develop effective implementation plans. Participants will also learn how to coach and support student teams through the Communication Access Plan process, building confidence in selecting priorities and applying AAC strategies that promote meaningful communication.

District and Organizational Training Requests

Monterey County SELPA is working to meet the changing needs of our districts and local organizations.  Training opportunities listed on this menu are available if requested by an administrator from your organization located in Monterey County.  Select the training title to view a flyer for the workshop.  To complete a request for training, select “Request this workshop” and a survey will be generated.  Your request will be assigned to a specific program specialist during our next staffing meeting.  The assigned program specialist will contact you to develop a service plan.  Please provide your request at least 15 working days before the date you would like the training to occur.

High Quality IEPs: Quicklinks

A Place to Begin is a CDE toolkit for educators and special education providers, offering practical tools, templates, and guidance for starting the IEP process and fostering effective family-school collaboration.

Before the IEP provides tools and guidance to help educators prepare for the IEP process, including assessments, eligibility, transition planning, and family collaboration.

During the IEP offers resources to guide educators through IEP meetings, including goal setting, transition planning, and determining supports and services.

After the IEP offers resources for ongoing implementation, monitoring progress, and collaborating with the IEP team to ensure the plan remains effective and responsive.

The IEP Success Companion Guide helps educators plan and lead effective, student-centered IEP meetings. It includes practical tools and templates to promote collaboration among team members, highlight student strengths and family input, and ensure the IEP process meets both educational and legal standards.
