Dear Community Member:

Attendees on School Bus with Inside Education Logo

I am pleased to announce that the Monterey County Office of Education will once again offer its exciting “Inside Education Monterey County” program. This program is a unique opportunity to learn about the current challenges, intricacies, and the remarkable work educators and school administrators are doing to improve the education and well-being of students in Monterey County. Through a series of informative workshops and field trips that take you into the classrooms of Monterey County schools, community members will gain valuable insights into the fundamentals of public education in Monterey County.

The “Inside Education Monterey County” program provides participants with a first-hand, interactive look at the local educational programs, services, and partnerships made possible through the collaborative effort of the Monterey County Office of Education, our 24 local school districts, eight charter schools, and other experienced professionals and community leaders. Participants will have an opportunity to speak directly with education leaders and visit school sites throughout the county to learn more about what is happening day-to-day in our schools, as well as learn about the most pressing challenges facing educators.

The program consists of six half-day, morning sessions once a month from September through March. Each half-day session will focus on a specific theme/curricular area and will include site visits. The program agenda will begin at 7:45 a.m. with breakfast while participants receive an overview of the curricular focus area of the day. Directly after the overview, participants will board school buses and be transported to the schools and programs on the day’s agenda. Participants will then return to the Monterey County Office of Education for lunch and a debrief/question and answer time. The day will conclude around 12:30 p.m.

Participants will also be invited to attend special events occurring throughout the year such as: Constitution Day, Science and Engineering Fair, Mathletics, Spelling Bee, Speech and Debate, etc.

The program is free to participants, but we do ask that participants commit to attend each scheduled day and complete the entire program. For addition information, please contact Robin Hughes at (831) 755-6463.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Sincerely,

Deneen Guss

"MCOE’s Inside Education tour was truly an eye-opener for me. I learned so much about our educational system, the large selection of courses and schooling options available to our students regardless of whether they plan to go to college or not (flight school, anybody?!) and how educational policies get implemented on a local level. What I enjoyed most about the tour was the ability to connect with teachers and school administrators and the chance to see the education efforts in action. As the administrator of a non-profit in the education field, I found the information I gained invaluable and would recommend this tour to anyone regardless of the field they work in."
