MCOE's Alternative Education Programs provides education advocacy to students in the Juvenile Justice system. The goal of the Court Education Advocacy program is to ensure successful student transitions and improve communications with stakeholders. The Court Education Liaison supports and assists students, families, court officers, probation and districts and schools in the following:

  • Assessing student educational needs and evaluating school placement, as assigned by the Court 
  • Developing educational plans for students transitioning back to school placement
  • Facilitating school enrollment and providing educational records
  • Identifying and recommending changes in educational placement 
  • Providing court related information to districts and schools
  • Providing school related information to the courts
  • Notifying districts and schools of student and parent specific concerns
  • Coordinating student re-entry activities, interventions and programs with districts and schools
  • Coordinating the Truancy Abatement Program (TAP)

Other initiatives include the coordination and delivery of workshops and educational events with the Superior Court of California, Monterey County, the Districts Attorney's Office of Monterey County and Hartnell College, including:

  • Constitution Day School Presentations
  • DUI School Education Event
  • Truancy and Court Advocacy Workshop
  • The Expulsion Process: Planning and Monitoring
  • Law Day
