Leadership, Support and Service to Prepare All Students for Success

Dr. Nancy Kotowski, County Superintendent of Schools

Monterey County Home Charter School administers a variety of assessments throughout the year.  Some of these exams are mandated by the state, while others are required by the school.  Examples of these tests include the NWEA MAP assessments, which chart growth in core subjects; the CAASPP assessments, which assesses student mastery the California Common Core State Standards in core curriculum (i.e., language arts, math, science, and social science); the California English Language Development Test (CELDT), which assesses the English language proficiency of students whose primary language is not English.

Put simply and succinctly, assessment data helps teachers target individual student needs and improve their instructional practice, and assessment data helps schools measure the overall effectiveness of their curriculum, programs, and practices.
