The mission of the Monterey County Child Care Planning Council is to create a comprehensive, integrated child care delivery system that offers safe, high quality, culturally sensitive, affordable child care to Monterey County families who need it; a system that allows parental choice and is supported by strong partnerships with public and private resources.

About the Council

The Local Planning Council was formed in 1991, in accordance with state law established by Assembly Bill 2141. The creation of the Council was for the purpose of identifying local child care priorities and developing policies to fulfill those priorities.

The Council is comprised of 15 members who represent consumers of child care services, child care providers, community and public agencies, and child care advocates. Members are appointed by the County Board of Supervisors and Monterey County Superintendent of Schools. The California Department of Education provides funding for the work of the council, which includes the following:

  • Conducts local needs assessment
  • Establishes local priorities for child care funding
  • Develop county-wide strategic plan
  • Facilitate the temporary and voluntary transfer of funds between State funded agencies

The Local Planning Council meetings are open to the public.
