The County Office of Education Homeless Student Liaison facilitates a network of district Homeless Student Liaisons that works together to develop common forms and compatible protocols for identifying and serving students in transitional living situations, as well as training modules for delivery in districts. The MCOE Homeless Student Liaison provides training and technical assistance to individual districts and schools. The position is required by CDE.

A District Homeless Liaison acts as a link between family, shelter, school system and community resources to coordinate educational services for homeless students. The Liaison renews and/or develops an awareness and sensitivity to the needs of homeless children and youth among school system and community services personnel. The ultimate role of the Liaison is to eliminate barriers to school enrollment, attendance and academic success for each child.
