SELPA Governance Council

The SELPA Governance Council is made up of the superintendents from each of the 24 school districts in Monterey County and the MCOE. It is the responsibility of the council to appoint representatives to the SELPA Executive Committee, review and take action to approve or deny amendments to the SELPA Local Plan, changes in the Income Distribution Agreement, and any other item determined necessary by the SELPA Executive Committee.

SELPA Executive Committee

The SELPA Executive Committee is made up of six representatives of the SELPA Governance Council. These representatives include two superintendents from each of three zones: the Valley Zone, the Salinas Zone, and the Bay Zone. SELPA Executive Committee responsibilities include, but are not limited to, recommending action on proposed amendments to the local plan and the Income Distribution Agreement to the SELPA Governance Council, taking action to approve or deny requests for program transfers, and taking action to approve or deny SELPA policies, administration regulations, procedures, resolutions, and guidelines for the management and implementation of special education programs and services within the SELPA.

SELPA Community Advisory Committee

The SELPA Community Advisory Committee (CAC) meets regularly to discuss topics of interest to parents and community members who take an active interest in all matters concerning special education in Monterey County. The CAC reviews and makes recommendations relating to the SELPA Local Plan and participates in other activities to support students with disabilities in our area. The CAC also assists SELPA in developing the parent education program.
